Dallas Says N.O. to T.O.

Quick, someone sign him before Snyder and Cerratto find out he's available!  Good God almighty, don't bring that sack of scrotal stain to D.C.!

We've spent enough.  We have enough high profile players now.  Just let this one go Danny.  Vinny, quit touching yourself, we do NOT NEED T.O.!

The last high profile cowboy you brought over screwed you out of a ton of jack....remember Neon Deion?

Nuff said, we don't need him, don't want him and I will root for the damned lions next season if you sign him.

Now in honor of T.O.'s departure, we offer you this:
Just $12.95 navy blue with grey deco.  No more popcorn baby, it's time to pack them bags and head out the door!  www.hogsofolddc.com

Taylor Out!

The Redskins today cut DE Jason Taylor after one injury riddled season of sub par play. He was asked to participate in 25 days of off season workouts with the team as a condition of his return for an $8 million payday.

I guess it takes more than that to make an old dog perform old tricks.

I thought he was a dolphin, but it seems to me he floundered around and lost big money.

Hey Hey Hey, It's Fat (contract) Albert!

That's right Hogs fans, the Redskins fantasy football owner Daniel Snyder has opened his wallet, dug deep and signed now-former Tennessee Titans Defensive Tackle Albert Haynesworth to an astonishing 7 year, $100 million contract. I imagine little Danny was like a kid on Christmas Eve, bugging Vinny every hour if it was time to open the presents yet.

The team has scheduled a 5pm newsconference today to announce the acquisition. I'm just hoping that Mr. Haynesworth makes good on his promises to "prove the doubters wrong" after being signed to such a high paying contract.

If he continues his dominance as he showed last year, we're in good shape. But I'm reminded of some other high priced acquisitions that pretty much crapped the bed. Deion Sanders, Adam Archuleta, Brandon Lloyd, Dana Stubblefield, Mark Brunell, and the list goes on.

On the bright side, we also managed to lock up CB Deangelo Hall to a six-year $54 million dollar deal. This one will pay huge dividends going forward.

Marcus Gone, Jason Staying Put

Well Hog fans, I don't quite know how to take this latest development in the Redskins offseason. It seems our brilliant leaders in the front office have trimmed Marcus Washington out of the upcoming season, turning him loose to go win a ring somewhere else, undoubtedly, while hanging on to Mr. Freeze, that guy from Criminal Minds, ugh, sorry, Jason Taylor.

It appears we're letting a long time Redskins pillar and leader in the locker room go for cap room, while hanging onto Mr. I'm Gone Next Year Fools.

I don't know folks. I'd love to see Taylor return to form and become that dominant QB sacking machine that he used to be. But frankly, I think he's making a final $8million before two-stepping off into the sunset. Kinda reminds me of Neon Deion......

The Offseason has officially begun

It looks as though the NFL offseason is in full swing.  We've already gotten reports about Tony Romo not necessarily saying he want's T.O. back in big D.

There's reports that Michael Vick and T.O. might team up to form some sort of super-jackass-duo for a super-jackass team owner in Al Davis and don the black and silver for what would be, in my opinion, the funniest thing ever put on a field.  Imagine the huddle:  "Vick, you my quarterback but you ain't throwin' T.O. the ball!"  "T.O. you know you my dog."   And every connection that Vick makes, every first down he manages to pick up....you know what the P.A. system is going to be playing right?

We've got news flowing in that Brett Favre is retiring, AGAIN.  Whoopty-doo.  I'll believe it when I see it, and I'm sure most of you will too.  I mean, really.  Who's buying this guy's statements anymore?  Maybe he'll end up in Canada or something, become an Argonaut or whatever they hell they call themselves.  Knowing Candian Football, they'll rename the team to the Niagra Favres or something.

And there's even rumors that Al Davis is, in fact, NOT just an embalmed pygmie in a track suit, that he's actually a living, breathing human being.  I don't know about this one folks.

So, as the offseason machine starts to churn, we would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of Mel Kaufman, linebacker for all three Redskins championship teams, who passed away this week at the way too young age of 50.

We'll keep you posted on the happenings that we feel are worth mentioning.  In the meantime, hang loose.

It's Over, Dammitall

Well, the Superbowl has come and gone, I've finally sobered up and Kurt Warner's kids won't be getting a puppy afterall. It's a shame too. I was really pulling for the Cardinals, as were many of the fans across the country.

I harbor no ill will towards the Steelers, mind you, however, I'm not a fan of Hines Ward. It's one thing to lay someone out when it's necessary and conducive to the play, it's another to just blindside some guy because you have the opportunity. That's not intensity, that's assault.

Either way, the Skins were enjoying the Superbowl, much like I was, at home on the couch. And for that, I'll take solace in the fact that we get another run in a few months.

I'll leave you with one last thought. The Cardinals may not have won it all, but they sure opened alot of eyes around the league when the post season got here. Everyone was counting them out before the bell rung, and they showed true poise in the face of the doubters. In honor of one time head coach Dennis Green, I present to you:

The Hog Pen - Community Forums

Hey folks,

For anyone that is interested, we have set up a community forum at HogsOfOldDC.com, it's called the Hog Pen and you're always welcome to join free and enjoy yourself chatting with others online.

However, as of January 24, 2009, we have disabled that forum. This is temporary, due to an influx of Haitian/El Salvadoran/etc, spammers trying to post nothing but nonsensical links to bootleg penis drugs.

So, please be patient while we weed the undesireables out of our forums, and keep it a fun, clean, happy place for all of you, our valued members. It's times like these that make it hard to just have fun.

Bear with us, we're working to lock it down and kick the garbage to the curb!

AJ Smith - Pompous Ass

Chargers GM AJ Smith - Pompous Ass

That's right. POMPOUS ASS. After Ladanian Tomlinson commented on his web site earlier this month and spoke about his future with the team, AJ Smith told the San Diego Tribune “My first reaction was we both have similar feelings. I have no intentions of leaving San Diego. San Diego is where my GM career started and where I’d like it to end. I also have nothing but love and the utmost respect for this team, the players and the Spanos family. I have absolutely no control over how long I will be with the Chargers.
“As for now, I am the Chargers’ GM, and I have major decisions to ponder for the organization now and in the future. My recommendation to Dean Spanos will be what’s in the best interest of the team – both short and long term. That’s my job. That’s what Dean hired me to do.”

Almost a word-for-word recreation of LT's statement. Why?

Is he simply trying to get under LT's skin and take a few cheap shots at the man? Or has he become so power hungry and antagonistic in his role with the Chargers that he feels more like a man by proving that he is, in fact, a Pompous Ass?

LT has done so much for a team that, for so long, was an also-ran. He's brought attention, class and talent to a team that nobody ever seriously thought about unless they lived in San Diego or one of the other 3 AFC West Team home towns.

AJ Smith does have a hand in deciding LT's future with the team, as he IS the General Manager. I ask you though, is this anyway for a GM to behave publicly about one of his team's most popular and talented athletes? I think not.

It's about time for Spanos to step up and put AJ under the microscope. If this is how he begins the off season, imagine how he'll be acting come spring training and the draft. Personally, I think it's time to cut out the dead wood.

Keep an eye out for our new AJ Smith tee, he's going to be thrilled.

Plax's newest business venture

Poor Poor Pitiful Plax...

Can't stay out of trouble with the law. He's a modern day Duke boy. Only he's not in Hazard County. He's in the big apple, screwing up big time.

With his football future in jeopardy, we thought it was prudent that Plax look towards a business venture in which he has plenty of experience already.

Visit the Hog Shop to pick your tee up today for only $12.95!

And so we wait...

Redskins fans, if you haven't noticed, there's not a ton of information out there for us to gnaw on. The Redskins have once again retracted into the safety of their lush offices and forgotten about the world as we know it.

Here's to hoping there's something, ANYTHING, coming out of Redskins Park soon! I'm about tired of this deafening silence.

SO...with that in mind, here's a few Redskins trivia bits to chew on:

On November 8, 1959 the Washington Football Redskins pulled off an upset against the Baltimore Football (leavin' in the middle of the night) Colts at Griffith Stadium with a final score of 27 - 24

In 1959 our head coach was Mike Nixon, a first time head coach.

Our quarterback was Eddie LeBaron

Believe it or not, Vice President Richard Nixon was a diehard Redskins fan.

Ok..so enough about that crap....let's shop:

And then there were four...

Wow, I've got to give it up for the Arizona Football Cardinals this weekend. Was that the biggest upset of the postseason or what?

Kurt Warner is returning to his roots as a GOOD quarterback and that defense was spanking the Panthers all day long. That's great for Coach Wisenhunt and the crew. I hope they can make it all the way to Tampa.

Regarding the Baltimore Browns...meh....they beat the Titans. Not a huge surprise there in my opinion. The Titans were looking rough down the stretch and Baltimore has been in this position before. I hold Jeff Fisher personally accountable for allowing the Baltimore Browns to advance into the championship game.

Regarding the Ickles vs. obGyMEN aka the Giants...it was only a matter of time. The Giants were paper tigers in that game. They pushed, they fought, they crumbled. When McNabbit can throw and run all over you, it's time to reconsider your career path. Hell, the Redskins spanked the Eagles TWICE this year.

And finally, the Steelers vs. Chargers. GOOD! I hate Phillip Rivers. And not because he's a better than average, actually good, quarterback on an opposing team. I hate him because he's a pompous little hot head that thinks the fans owe HIM something. Flash: Mr. Rivers, those fans pay your salary. Get over yourself.

So now we get to look forward to a Steelers vs. B-Browns matchup, there will be blood.

Eagles vs. Cardinals, there will be feathers. Either way, it's shaping up to be a great championship weekend. I think we're looking at an all bird superbowl, my prediction: Cards vs. Ravens.

In the meantime, get your gear at the Hog Shop!

Arizona has a what now?

Seriously, who knew? I always heard rumors of a football team in the southwest, but I didn't know they were a professional club. Why didn't anyone bother to inform the rest of us that Arizona actually had a FOOTBALL team now?

To commemorate the news, we've decided to honor them with this way cool tee shirt!

You never know when they could fall of the face of the earth again....

Kick 'em when they're down!

We're back with shirt number 2 in the series "Detroit Just Plain Sucks"

Here's a preview:

We know it's cruel to kick someone when they're done. But this is historically bad. Record-setting awful! You have to commemorate a season this lousy. You just have to!

Buy one now before they're gone! $15 in the Hog Shop

2 Former Skins in the Playoffs this weekend!

It's a rough time of the year for Redskins Fans. We don't have a team to root for in the post season.

HOWEVER - you can stroll down memory lane and support some of our former greats as their new teams battle for their post-season lives:

Russ Grimm - One time HOG, Hall of Fame Candidate and Offensive Coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals! It's my belief that this man will have a head coaching spot in 2009!

Ernest Byner - Running backs coach for the Tennessee Titans. He used to tear up the yards in DC, now he's showing the new generation how it's done!

Now, there are other former Redskins still actively playing that are on playoff teams this year, but I refuse to pull for them. I'm THAT guy. I know they might not have chosen to leave us, but they're on the opposition now.

So I'm throwing my support behind the Titans and the Cardinals for a Superbowl Showdown. (though, I'm pretty sure Arizona goes home this weekend)

Vinny.....

Ah, our very own GM/Executive Vice President of Football Operations and all around pain in the ass has spoken!

“Every decision, every situation,” he said. “The only people who don’t have to do that are the people holding the [Lombardi] trophy. Otherwise, everyone else is going through the same [evaluation process].

“What happened? Why did this happen? If we had done something different, would that have given us a different result? How do we get better? To improve, you have to look at the things that you did, because 8-8 is not where you want to be.”

I just want to know one thing Vinny...are we evaluating the front office too? Can you honestly be objective enough to say "Hey, I'm screwing up big time here, I need to go!"? I doubt it. That luxury box at FedEX Field is too nice to give up just because you're a schmuck.

A New Year - A New Hope

Happy New Year!

With our Redskins out of the post season, there's not much to do in Hogland but look forward to next season, and hope to hell the Eagles and Giants get eliminated quickly.

With things seeming to have settled on the Head Coach front, Jim Zorn does get to stay put after all, we can now start picking apart what went wrong, who needs to be replaced and what positions definitely need some fresh blood.

It's my opinion, and has been all season, that we seriously need to upgrade our aging offensive and defensive lines. These guys are great, they play their hardest, but age is catching up to them. Pete Kendall, Jon Jansen, Andre Carter, Casey Rabach, Ray Thomas, Jason Taylor....these guys are in their early to mid 30's. If they were situational players, I'd say keep 'em, but as starters going against younger, faster and more aggressive players for four quarters a week, it's just not a good situation.

I remember the days of the Over The Hill Gang, and I remember they did great things, but I also remember the downward spiral they found themselves in as those guys got hurt, tired and left the team. We need a youth movement, we need guys that haven't accomplished much yet, someone who's hungry every snap of every game.

I look for upgrades on both sides of the ball where the guys put their hands in the dirt and lock horns. There's no doubt that we need to shore up some secondary positions, develop some talent in the defensive backfield, but I think our most pressing issue is protecting OUR quarterback and getting after opponents' quarterbacks.

I say this with the utmost respect for the players we have and for what they've done, but they are getting just a little long in the tooth. Bugel needs some players that he can coach from the ground up, and put in HIS style of line play.

Vinny, however, is already talking about drafting skill positions on offense. Like we need anymore receivers and tight ends or running backs??? Come on, unless someone just falls into your lap, get the players we NEED Vinny....quit collecting names and start collecting TALENT, NECESSARY TALENT!!!!
