2009 Season Opponents Announced

As we get ready for the post season and looking forward to the 2009 season, the NFL has released the full slate of opponents for the Redskins next year.

Home Games will be against: Dallas, New York Giants, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Denver, Kansas City and St. Louis

Away Games will be against: Dallas, New York Giants, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Carolina, Oakland, San Diego and Detroit

Looks like a fairly even season in terms of opposition if we use this season as a gauge. Of course, all of that changes when the new season kicks off.

My predictions going forward will be posted as we get past the superbowl!

8-8, a hard way to finish out

Well Skins fans, we lost a big one in San Francisco.  I give all the credit in the world to Hill and Coach Singletary for sticking it out and making something out of nothing.  After the 49ers pitiful 2nd and 3rd quarters, it would have been easy to pack it in, and go home for a few months.  But they stuck it out and showed us that our secondary was sleeping.

I admire everything the Redskins and Coach Zorn have accomplished this season, and if you think back to the preseason, we didn't underperform according to most everyone's prediction.  At best, we were predicted to win 9 games....that's at BEST!!!  We came up at .500 on the season with a first year head coach, the fourth offensive system for our QB and frankly, I'm proud of these Redskins!

They fought through injury, turmoil, and turnover at the top.  They never quit, never gave up and if 8-8 is a lousy season, I'd love to see a good one.  We're not the Lions, we're not the Chiefs, we won some big games this year and sparks of greatness were shown.  I applaud every player and coach on that team for a great year!  Of course, the post season would have been nice, but 8-8 is amazing for a coach that's never been in that leadership role before.

Congratulations to our 2008 Washington Redskins.  A turnover here, a touchdown there, and we'd be talking about a Superbowl....but all in all a great season, and I'm looking forward to improvement for 2009!

Hold your heads up high DC.....you have nothing to be ashamed of!  HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!!!!!!!

PERFECTION!!!!!!!

With apologies to Rod Marinelli and the players...

Detroit has finally made history!  It was a long time in the making, and they worked hard to achieve this dream, but Detroit is now the proud owner of the WORST record ever in the history of Pro Football!

How do you not win ONE game?  You can blame the owner, the president, the gm, the coach....but damn....how do you go completely winless!!!?????

Anyways, check back soon for some Perfect Season tees you can purchase to commemorate the occasion.

I don't wish this on anyone, but since it happened, I'm going to pile it on.

Zorn on the way out...mark my words

As much as I hate to say it, I think Jim Zorn is coaching his last game this Sunday vs. the 49ers.

Cerrato has made the death statement, "Why wouldn't he be back?" Didn't we hear similar statements regarding Marty Schottenheimer, Norv Turner and Steve Spurrier????

2 were fired, Spurrier however, left with his tail between his legs and has since been the bane of the SEC.

Jim, I think you're doing a fantastic job, and I want you back next year and beyond! You brought something to this team that no other coach has since the days before multi-million dollar contracts.

My Christmas wish is that we continue to keep Zorn and his staff firmly in place for many years to come. Just upgrade some line positions on O and D and we'll be JUST FINE!!!!!

Remembering Sammy

Hey Everyone,

Here at HogsOfOldDC, we feel for Sammy Baugh and his family during their time of grief.  Sammy suffered from Alzheimer's and I personally know what that's like.

My own Mother passed away from complications due to Alzheimer's.  In memoriam of Sammy, and my Mother's undying love for all things Redskin, I have designed a tee to recognize Sammy's passing.

Every sale of this shirt guarantee's a $5 donation to the Alzheimer's foundation in my Mother's name:  Joneta Mothershead.  She is THE reason I am a Redskin fan, and THE reason I am who I am today.  Sammy might even be getting an earful from her as we speak!  :)

This sale profits HogsOfOldDC.com less than $1 per shirt.  We are NOT TRYING TO PROFIT from this sale.  This is strictly in memory of the ONLY Redskin to ever have his number retired and in the memory of my Mother...the smallest woman EVER to root BIG for the Redskins!

The Iggles Go Down!

HTTR!!!! We pulled off a nailbiter to end the season at home. 10 - 3 over the Philthadelphia Iggles! Two sacks on McNabb, a fumble recovery and an all around ballsy performance by our defense!

Congrats to the Skins on their big, BIG win! We may be out of the race for the post season, but we showed that we're not going down without a fight!

Blame for everyone...almost

Well it appears that there's plenty of blame to go around at Redskins park today.  According to this article, Coach Zorn blames first himself, then the rest of his staff for the lackluster performances on the field the last half-season.  And while I admire a man who can admit he's made mistakes, why would it take this long to realize it?

Doesn't that smell of a "I'm afraid to blame anyone else because I'm just the new guy here" kind of remark?

And then Clinton Portis takes a turn at the blame game.  You might remember last week when he lit up Coach Zorn on the radio.  Well this week, he keeps the blame closer to home, as you can read in this article.  CP seems to think that the players on the team are letting themselves down.

I don't know about you, but I'm thinking we may have seen the first, last and only season under the Zorn regime.  I haven't heard anything from Dan The Fan's office but they usually wait until after the season to mess things up.  I mean, change things for the better.  (right).

Either way, I think the effort shown is indicative of an aging offensive and defensive line.  You can nitpick other areas, but where the majority of the problems start and end are with the lines.  We have virtually no pass rush, we can't hardly protect the QB long enough for him to even drop back and set up a pass, let alone pass it, and lately:  We can't run between the tackles most plays.

Fix what's broken, leave what isn't and I bet we have the tools to turn this whole thing around for the 2009 campaign.

Hail Redskins!  Hold your heads up high, better days are a comin'!

Redskins to host the Philthydelphia Iggles

Let's get up for this one Hogs and Hoggettes!  We play host to the Philtydelphia Iggles this weekend at 4pm!

I know our playoff hopes are all but gone, but we can go out with a little pride in our pockets by thrashing McNabb and the boys.  Come on everyone, show some love to those sons of old DC!

Make sure you pick up one of our very cool Hip Hip Hooray Tees today for yourself or someone you love!  More designs coming soon!

Let us know what you'd like to see added to the HogsOfOldDC.com Hog Shop and we'll do our best to accomodate you.
OK everyone. After having a night to sleep on it, and get the alcohol out of my system, I've come to the conclusion that our problems are what they are. We're not executing every snap of the ball and because of that, other teams are taking full advantage of the opportunity.

Let's get a fire lit under these Skins for the last two games and at least go out on top this year. Winning records DO count for something. Plus, we need to heal our pride.

Take today to vent about yesterday then move on. Anger is allowed, but only for the day following the game. After that we need to get geared up moving forward and throw 100% support behind these guys.

Tough loss, tough way to lose, but hey, it is what it is....

Quick Note

To anyone and everyone that follows the Hogs Of Old DC blog, I just want to let you know that the blog will start to look BETTER graphically soon.  I'm starting it up just now, and will be working on it throughout the week to dress it up.

Thanks for visiting, please leave comments.  Keep them PG rated though.  Sometimes my kids and maybe even YOURS might be browsing through.  Don't get filthy.  If you wouldn't say it in front of your child, don't say it here.

Redskins @ Bengals

Well, what can I say?  The first quarter we crapped the bed.  In a BIG way.  Cooley fumbles on a pass, and gives Cincy everything it needs to start playing football this year.  I love Chris Cooley like a brother, but hey, his mistake gave Cincy something to build on.

The blame for the rest of the 1st quarter is placed on the defense and, honestly, our offensive line.  Campbell may not be the next coming of Sonny Jurgenson, but hell, he's the best we've had since Joe Theisman.  Give the man a few seconds to throw the ball wouldja?

Our offensive line has struggled since the time we went 6-2 this year.  They've been giving up protection as if their jobs are to stand and watch the game up close.  What the hell?

The second quarter, into the middle of the third quarter looked like REDSKINS FOOTBALL to me.  We were connecting on passes, C.P. was finding hard yardage everywhere we turned, then the officials give the friggin' Bengals the ball on a bogus-assed call at the goal line.

I do own a High-Def t.v. and DVR, and guess what?  Sellars got across the goal line before that ball was stripped with his second effort.  I know that doesn't matter for hell right now, we lost, but the officiating sucked.

At any rate, I'm still lovin' the Skins, and always will.  I just with the o-line would take the games more serious from the first snap.  A lot of good things happened today too.  Sellars, Portis, Moss, Campbell, Cooley, Fletcher, etc...they all had moments.  And at this point, I'm hoping to end the year with a winning season.  I really don't want to make it to the playoffs if it means a first round defeat.  That's worse in my mind than not making the post season at all.

Continue fighting 'Skins, you have the right coach and most of the right players!  Hail To The Redskins!!!!!!

Welcome to the Hogs Of Old DC Blog

First and foremost, I want to state for the record that I am and have been since I can remember, a die hard Redskins fan.

Don't assume that to mean that I always agree with or support the Redskins.  I love the team, the colors, the history, but I don't always love the personnel and the decisions they make.  I WILL definitely rag on them if they crap the bed, as they did today in Cincy, but when they do good things I praise them for it as well.

I am NOT a fair weather fan, I don't care what anyone says.  I bleed burgundy and gold.  However, in the same way that a parent shows their child tough love, I treat MY team the same way.

I have started this site, because I moved to South Carolina from Maryland in 2006 and I dearly miss being in my team's hometown.  I love, LOVE the Redskins.  Get it in your head now.  I LOVE THE REDSKINS!!!!

Welcome to my world, I will update you on everything I think about the 'Skins as the season and offseason progress, and in turn, I hope you will find my tshirt designs good enough to add to your collection.
